I have desired XL glass storage jars for decades, however, with a burgeoning family, the price of said containers was always a prohibitive factor. Now that I've reached "senior" age status, I can now afford to splurge a bit.For the Holidays (and sometimes in between), I make several dozen cookies of different varieties. I also make HUGE batches of homemade Chex Mix for gifts and for general snacking. These XL glass jars (1.5 gal) and their smaller version (1 gal) serve my needs perfectly! The adhesive labels on the jar are fairly neutral, however they began to come loose during preliminary hand washing, thus I just soaked/scraped them off with relative ease. These jars can also be washed/sterilized in the dishwasher before and after use by simply removing the top rack of dishwasher to allow for the extra height. The metal lids are much smaller, thus I find my self handwashing them. The handles on top of the lids make them a bit easier to access and carry, although I always put my other hand on the glass bottom so as not to stress the neck of the glass portion. I had intended to follow my usual ritual of placing appropriately sized rounds of Styrofoam (cut from plates) to act as air infiltration barriers inside of the metal lids, however this year I elected to try the lids without a liner, and found the contents remained fresh for over a month without the added feature.These substantial sturdy jars made my designated holiday treat table look quite handsome and cohesive while providing means of "showing off" the contents in convenient fashion. In my experience, I've found there are only two minor caveats to this product... #1) the metal lid usually requires a few attempts to align the threads of the screw on lid before it will actually secure to the glass jar -- which leads to caveat #2) the metal lid produces a "telltale" unmistakable tin noise while being accessed, thus there's no "sneaking" a snack for yourself without alerting others within earshot to your dietary indiscretion.
